  1. Corrosion Resistance:

    • SS304 is highly resistant to corrosion in a wide range of environments, but it may be susceptible to pitting and crevice corrosion in harsher conditions, such as those with chlorides.

    • SS316 has superior corrosion resistance, especially in marine and chemical environments. The addition of molybdenum (2-3%) significantly enhances its resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.

  2. Strength:

    • SS304 has a tensile strength of around 515 MPa and a yield strength of around 205 MPa.

    • SS316 has a tensile strength of around 515 MPa and a yield strength of around 170 MPa. While the tensile strengths are similar, SS316 is slightly more ductile.

  3. Temperature Resistance:

    • SS304 can handle temperatures up to around 870°C (1600°F) intermittently and 925°C (1700°F) continuously.
