Broadly speaking, standoffs also include variants with internal threads on both ends. These components typically feature a hexagonal shape and serve dual purposes of fastening and isolation. Originally manufactured from hexagonal copper rods, standoffs are also commonly referred to as copper columns, hexagonal copper columns, copper isolation columns, or copper spacer columns.

Standoff screws are predominantly used in computer and circuit board industries. When installed, one end screws into the locked object while the hexagonal post remains exposed, enabling the fixation or isolation of other components.
